Third Consecutive Cancellation of the Fast Ferry Service

For the third consecutive time, it has been brought to our attention that the Fast Ferry Service has been once again suspended due to irregularities in the tender issued by the Public Contracts Review Board. Various illegalities were pointed out and Transport Malta has been ordered to issue a new tender in line with relevant EU specifications. 

This issue has become another set-back which will further delay the possibility of a much needed, fast connection between the islands. This dragging of feet has become a never-ending concern which is complicating the lives of many Gozitans who depend on an efficient and reliable service for their daily commute – a promise which has been vowed for over 8 years, capturing the headlines very often before an election. 

Regrettably, we are very let down and dismayed with the lack of commitment being shown and desperately hope that this issue will be given its due attention sooner than later.

Għat-tielet darba konsekuttiva, aħna l-Għawdxin ingħatajna l-aħbar il-ħazina illi s-servizz tal-Fast Ferry ġie sospiż għal darb’oħra minħabba irregolaritajiet fl-offerta’ maħruġa mill-Bord ta’ Reviżjoni tal-Kuntratti Pubbliċi. Ġie argumentat illi instabu diversi nuqqasijiet u b’kawża t’hekk Transport Malta ġiet mitluba toħroġ sejha ġdida li tkun tinkludi l-ispeċifikazzjonijiet rilevanti tal-Unjoni Ewropa. 

In-nuqqas ta’ dan is-servizz tant utli ser ikun ta’ ostaklu għalina l-Għawdxin u ser itawwal il-proċess għal-soluzzjoni ta’ konnettivita bejn iż-żewg gżejjer. Dan id-dewmien ser ikun qed jikkumplika l-ħajja ta ’bosta Għawdxin li jiddependu fuq servizz effiċjenti għall-vjaġġ tagħhom ta’ kuljum – wegħda li ilha tiġi repetuta għal dawn l-aħħar 8 snin, li tkun prominenti fl-aħbarijiet spiss qabel elezzjoni.
