During the budget debate held yesterday, the Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, announced that the Gozo Heliport will be modernised and its airstrip will be extended to allow for the possible reintroduction of an airlink between Malta and Gozo. He emphasised that work will be held within the parameters already in existence and that no agricultural land will be used.
The minister said that this investment is not only being put forward to improve connectivity between Malta and Gozo, but it could also possibly attract schools of flying to train young pilots as well as firms involved in the production and testing of drones. Additionally, it was said that the same operational model employed for the fast ferry service will be used for the introduction of an airlink service.
The GUG notes that the Fast Ferry Service has proved to be quite advantageous to Gozitans who commute on a regular basis, and believes that such a service will similarly be beneficial to many students.
