The Gozo University Group held its Annual General Meeting on the 16th of May 2021 via a zoom meeting. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, it was decided that it would be best to hold this meeting online for the second consecutive year. Apart from this, the meeting was held earlier than in previous years due to an amendment to the statute.
During this AGM, chaired by Renée Formosa, the new executive members were elected and new amendments were introduced to the current statute. The previous executive members gave a summary of their respective roles and experiences throughout the year. Moreover, the former president, Mark Farrugia, pointed out that although this year’s events were very limited due to this current pandemic, a great effort was still made to make the best out of the situation. In fact, the events held were still successful, one of them being the GUG’s Car Treasure Hunt. Farrugia’s time as President has come to an end, however, taking his place is Owen Teuma who has worked closely with him for the past several years. Teuma has taken on the role with confidence and is determined to lead GUG with great motivation.
The statute was amended through a unanimous vote amongst the present voters which led to a change in the roles of the Information Secretary and Financial Officer, the change being that VO submissions will now be taken care of by these two roles.
Samuel Buttigieg, Mark Farrugia, and Nicole Debrincat were appointed positions on the Vigilance Board. Since no other candidates were contesting for these positions within the executive, no elections were needed. The GUG’s new executive is: Owen Teuma as President, Estelle Scicluna as Vice-President, Monique Camilleri as Administration Secretary, Danica Sultana as Information Secretary, Christine Sultana as Events Officer, Rebecca Grech as Social Media Officer, Michele Scicluna as Financial Officer, Daisy Grima as Public Relations Officer, Matthias Mercieca as Education Officer, Clara Sciberras as Social Policy Officer, Eric Grech as International Officer, Claire Gauci as Marketing Officer and Matthias Refalo as Mcast Representative.
On behalf of GUG, we would like to thank every candidate who showed interest in joining our organisation.
GUG LAQGĦA GENERALI ANNWALI 2021
Il-Grupp tal-Università ta’ Għawdex kellu l-Laqgħa Ġenerali Annwali tiegħu fis-16 ta’ Mejju 2021, din is-sena b’differenza. Minħabba s-sitwazzjoni tal- COVID-19, li għadejjin minnha bħalissa, ġie deċiż li għat-tieni sena konsekuttiva, din il-laqgħa terġa ssir onlajn. Barra minn hekk, il-laqgħa ta’ din is-sena saret fi żmien aktar kmieni mis-snin ta’ qabel minħabba emenda fl-istatut.
Waqt din il-laqgħa, immexxija minn Renée Formosa, minbarra li ġie elett it-tim eżekuttiv il-ġdid, ġew introdotti ukoll xi emendi għall-istatut preżenti. Il-Membri Eżekuttivi preċedenti taw rendikont dwar l-irwoli u l-esperjenzi rispettivi tagħhom. Barra minn hekk, l-eks president, Mark Farrugia fir-rapport tiegħu, irrimarka li għalkemm l-avvenimenti ta ’din is-sena kienu limitati ħafna minħabba din il-pandemija, xorta sar sforz kbir biex jsir dak kollu possibbli. Fil-fatt, xorta saru avvenimenti matul is-sena kollha li kienu ta suċċess, fosthom il-GUG Car Treasure Hunt. Iż-żmien ta’ Farrugia bħala President wasal fi tmiemu, madankollu jieħu postu Owen Teuma li ħadem mill-qrib miegħu fis-snin li għaddew. Teuma daħal għal dan l-irwol b’kunfidenza u huwa determinat li jmexxi lil GUG b’motivazzjoni kbira.
L-istatut tal-GUG ġie emendat permezz ta’ vot unanimu fost il-votanti preżenti li wassal għal bidla fl-rwoli tas-Segretarju ta’ l-Informazzjoni u l-Uffiċjal Finanzjarju, u ghalhekk issa l-VO submissions se jkunu f’idejn dawn iz-zewg irwoli imsemmija.
Samuel Buttigieg, Mark Farrugia u Nicole Debrincat ġew appuntati għall-pożizzjonijiet differenti fuq il-Bord tal-Vigilanza. Peress illi ma’ kienx hemm iżjed kandidtati li kkontestaw għal dawn il-pożizzjonijiet fi ħdan l-eżekuttiv, ma kien hemm l-ebda bżonn għall-elezzjoni.
